Land System

A significant portion of the game overworld is split along invisible boundaries in the shape of 500 hexagonal tiles that represent prospecting deeds (land rights) owned by players. Each deed plot is owned via an ERC-721 NFT that will be mintable prior to game launch using $Chronos (our ERC-20 token yielded by adventurer NFTs over time).

Rather than simply call this “owned land” which wouldn’t really make much sense for the nomadic, sky-faring civilisations that inhabit the world, we instead say that the player has a “Prospecting Deed” for an area, granted by the Prospector’s Guild. This gives the deed owner the right to tax any resource extraction that occurs in those boundaries.

These prospecting deed NFTs can be traded by players and represent the most valuable asset in the game.

What is the primary utility of Prospecting Deeds?

  • Political Influence: as a land owner you receive a substantial number of extra governance votes for each plot you own that falls under a settlement's administration. With this power you can shape alliances, mergers, upgrade pathways and even conflict between settlements.

  • Prospecting tax: deed owners are entitled to a percentage of all resources harvested by other players within the relevant plot, with a further bonus for adjacent deeds owned

  • Baron Title: get a sweet title added to your name that let's other players know you are a big shot prospecting baron or baroness!

What does a deed plot look like?

The exact look and feel of prospecting plots and the overworld is still being polished, however we can confirm they will be 3D and an uninterrupted part of the playable overworld that you can run around in.

Land Types

  • All land plots have one of three terrain types (mountains, forest, plains)

  • The distribution of resources harvestable on each land type will vary, somewhat inline with the terrain type but also taking account of nearby natural features of significance (e.g. volcanic seams).

  • There will be adjacency bonuses for land owners, however there will also be strategic value to spreading your plots out and owning land in more than one kingdom / settlement administrative area.

  • We expect different players to value the same tile differently based on its strategic governance value (the potential to form / control other kingdoms) and its resource yields. There won't be a clearly 'best' or 'worst' tile.

Resource Harvesting (‘Labouring’)

All ownable land tiles have one of three terrain types and yield different resources depending on the corresponding terrain and nearby world features of significance. Adventurers locate and harvest specific resources from land tiles in real time.

Non-landed adventurers can harvest resources from any tile in the game — including unowned land tiles, however prospecting barons/baronesses only benefit when other players choose to harvest resources (labour) within their deed boundaries.

I have no deeds! What about me?

PxQuest reflects a true feudal system in that the majority of players are landless. Landless players can however be invited to become a member of a settlement, which entitles them to certain benefits. Settlement members can:

  1. Vote on settlement proposals, including alliances, mergers, upgrade paths and conflict

  2. Make use of all vendors / crafting services (non members can only use a limited subset of buildings).

  3. Avoid a significant tax charged by vendors on non-members, which increases as the settlement is upgraded.

Wen land?

The exact timing of the mint will be determined by both market conditions and the progress of game and artwork development for the prospecting plots. As of August 2022 we were tentatively pricing land at 3250 $Chronos. We will increase the price of land an additional 850 $Chronos per month of additional delay to ensure we match the increased global supply of $Chronos in circulation.
